Nicole Coleman | Bid Consultant | CF APMP

Nicole, how did you get established in the tendering industry?

Back when I was completing my Bachelor of Environmental Management, I worked for a civil engineering and construction contractor. It was here that I sort of fell into coordinating and writing bids. I soon discovered I had a deep passion for the bidding process and have been exhilarated by the process since. I now specialise in civil engineering and construction and have continued writing and coordinating bids for over 5 years.

What is the most memorable highlight you’ve experienced thus far in your career?

This is an easy one for me. I was coordinating and writing a compliant, alternative design and construct proposal for a 190-meter road bridge in a sensitive environmental location in NSW. While it was a challenging project, the bid was successful and to this day brings me quite a sense of accomplishment.

What do you enjoy the most about tendering/proposal writing?

I really enjoy the diversity of tendering and constantly learning about different industries. No two days are the same!

What is the biggest challenge you face in your role?

Time! While it is not the most obvious challenge, time management can be difficult for most parties involved. This is an area I’m learning evolved strategies to manage my work and maintain a productive output. It’s a skill I think many people endeavour to master. We all strive for work life balance.

What do you love most about being part of the team at BidWrite?

I really enjoy being surrounded by like-minded people who are passionate about what we do and advocate for our profession.

What is the one thing you would like to share with bid managers?

Optimism and strategy will always help clients win.

Can you sum your personality up in 3 words?

Organised, positive, relaxed.

Where is your favourite place to be?

At the beach in the height of summer with my husband, Josh and my Rhodesian Ridgeback, Aria.

If you could have another job for a day, what would you choose?

I do love nature and the opportunity to share that with others would be awesome particularly in the role of a park ranger or geography teacher. Just for a day though because I also love the luxury of clean clothes, shoes and generally working indoors in a tidy space.

Do you have an inspirational quote that speaks to you?

“Every day may not be good… but there’s something good in every day” – Alice Morse Earle
